The company has a safety record second to none and this hasnt happened by accident (pardon the pun) but more by design, attention to detail and ongoing training. Health and safety is high profile in our everyday life, both at work and play, and its thanks to the legions of personal defenders in society who ensure we are not unwittingly put at risk. Bodies like our local councils that fend off pernicious dangers like town centre Christmas lights, unscreened Santa Clauses and tall Spruce treesthe unsung heroes of public wellbeing.
Its often small details like this that the unwary amongst get caught out by, so you can imagine my relief when the other day our workshops received new retractable tape measures. I was overwhelmed to see that at long last someone had the presence of mind to fix a safety warning sticker on them to flag up the all too obvious dangers surrounding measuring things. The notice read: CAUTION: always wear safety goggles. NEVER allow the blade to return uncontrolled at full speed when rewinding.
How many times did that tape shoot back at full speed and youve thought someones going to get maimed or killed one day?
One less corporate felony to worry about in the wee small hours...
