"The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated"
While on a recent fact-finding trip, the Keyo directors attended the AIP Expo at the Georgia International Congress Centre, USA. Among the vast halls of displays taken up by trade exhibitors from all avenues of the industry we happened to bump into one of our more well known clients…Harland David Sanders, or as he prefers to be called "The Colonel".
The Colonel explained to us that his finger lickin' good secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices still remains a closely guarded secret, and that even today only separate portions of the recipe are made in numerous locations across America that finally come together and create that unique taste.
Encouraged by our interest, he went on to say that some of the older restaurants have become famous in their own right. One such restaurant, located locally in Marietta, Georgia has a 17-meter high sign that looks like a chicken. The sign - known locally as "The big chicken" - is often used as a travel reference point by drivers and pilots!
As he was now really getting into his stride, he continued to say that the company also has the only logo visible from space, and its located in the Mojave desert in Nevada. This awesome structure is constructed of over 65,000 one foot square tiles to comprise the largest advertisement in the world.
It became obvious by the gathering crowd that we were monopolising The Colonel's time, so we bid our farewells in an effort to leave, but The Colonel said it wasn't often he had the chance to spend time with his colonial cousins these days, and how much he had enjoyed it. He asked if we would agree to a photo with him and we said it would be our pleasure.
As we parted, the kindly old gentlemen lent over and whispered in my ear, "Ya know Mark, if you wana try this recipe at home all ya need is…"
