Clay Shoot Grand Final 2011

16th September 2011

As the finals approached and the tension heightened the evenings were also drawing in, as well as the weather becoming more changeable.

Nobody expected that we would repeat the superb weather experienced at the semis, the forecast was for rain and it looked likes that's what we would get. But to everyone's great delight the rain held off.

What we did get was wind, gusting quite strong at times, which gave everybody a hard time and was reflected in the scores.

The two shift supers were determined to win but there was only ever going to be one winner.  In the end Tony was the victor with 35, a decisive 7 point lead over second place Chris Legard.  Joint 3rd went to 'The Hough,' the other man desperate for the win, who was kept company by 'Dark Horse Dave,' another shooter tipped for the top.  The last eight places were all covered by a mere 5 points.

Some may say it was a predictable end to the championship but at this level it could have been anybody's.  As we all reflected on why we hadn't won the earlier forecast rain started to fall but by this time we had all retired to the warmth of the Haven Inn for a shandy and an egg sandwich.

A big thank you to Andy and the guys at Melrose for making it possible.
